From Hobby to Career: My Indie Development Journey and Income Revealed
A year ago, I wrote an article about the monthly income of independent developers out of interest. Unexpectedly, it attracted the attention of many friends. Time flies, and now I have transformed independent development from a hobby into a life goal. This article is a testimony of my transformation this year.
Independent development has brought me more than just a change in income. More importantly, it gave me control over my own time and destiny. From now on, I no longer have to endure the Monday morning traffic and gloomy weather, nor do I have to worry about being sapped of enthusiasm by repetitive work. My time is entirely at my own disposal.
So, here comes the question that everyone is most concerned about: How much money do I make in a year? Now, let me reveal the answer.
From July last year to June this year, my main source of income was course sales on MOOC.com. I have three courses for sale, two of which are new. When the new course went online, there was a clear peak in sales, which also allowed me to experience the satisfaction brought by the fruits of my labor.
After deducting various losses and costs, my net income this year is approximately 200,000 yuan. Although there is still a certain gap compared with my previous work income, this number represents the value that I created completely independently and independently. Moreover, this trend is clear. With accumulation and hard work, I believe that income will continue to grow.
Some people may laugh at me: "Aren't you just selling courses? What's so great about it?" But in my mind, independent development is a way of life, a way of pursuing freedom, creation and value. Whether it is through course sales, application development or other means, as long as you can realize your own values and dreams, you are worthy of respect.
Independent development also allows me to gain more humanistic care. On the MOOC, I saw many sincere evaluations and feedback from students, which made me deeply feel the meaning and value of my work. This sense of accomplishment cannot be measured by money.
Of course, going independent is not an easy path. It requires continuous technical learning and thinking transformation, as well as continuous experimentation and innovation. But it is these challenges and difficulties that make me more determined in my choice. Because I know that only in this way can I truly control my own destiny and realize my dreams.
