From cost-effectiveness to reality impact: Yangshuo’s “overturning” journey
In the last video, I revealed to you how to find a very cost-effective resort community through WeChat Maps. However, what I want to share this time is a less than perfect experience - the story of "car rollover" by following the picture.
1. Beautiful “trap”
During a random map search, I discovered what seemed like the perfect vacation spot in Yangshuo County, Guangxi Province. Yangshuo is famous for its unique solitary peaks and beautiful landscapes. It is known as "Guilin's landscape is the best in the world, and Yangshuo is the best in Guilin". This seems to be an ideal retreat for a freelancer like me.
2. The gap between expectations and reality
Full of expectations, I set out from Guangdong and headed west. However, when I actually stepped into this land, I found that the reality was very different from my expectations. What looks like a large resort community on the map is actually just a construction site under construction, with no living conditions or infrastructure at all.
3. Another side of Yangshuo
Although the resort community disappointed me, Yangshuo's natural scenery and unique rural style made my eyes shine. The countryside here is nestled in the scenery, and the farmhouses are well maintained and even spontaneously transformed into B&Bs and inns. However, as I learned more, I discovered that these accommodations were not as ideal as I had imagined. The high prices, shared accommodation, and the inconvenience caused by the flow of people all made me reconsider whether to live here long-term.
4. The comfort of delicious food
Although the accommodation conditions were not satisfactory, the food in Yangshuo gave me some solace. Especially the local rice noodles attracted me with its unique taste and production process. Rice noodles are the most common snack in Guangxi. Every household has its own unique seasoning method, which not only retains local characteristics but is also very delicious.
5. Reflection and moving forward
This "car overturn" experience made me deeply realize that traveling and living are not always as beautiful as we imagined. While pursuing cost-effectiveness and ideal life, we also need to face the challenges and inconveniences brought by reality. However, it is these experiences that make us more mature and stronger. Next, I will continue my journey of searching, hoping to find the "Utopia" that truly belongs to me.
