Over the past year, I have lived and traveled as a digital nomad in many cities around the world, including Chiang Mai, Dali, Utrecht in the Netherlands, Paris, Florence, Budapest, and Bali. This experience gave me some deep understanding of the necessary conditions for an ideal city, and also gave me a clearer direction for the life I want.
After this year of exploration, I found that I still prefer city life. The convenience of the city is unmatched by the countryside. Here I have a better chance of meeting people who share my interests and can chat with me. The countryside is more suitable for those who do not have many social needs at this stage, have clear things to do, and enjoy long periods of time alone.
In addition, I also hope to live in a space and environment with good aesthetic taste. The cities I like have very beautiful buildings, pleasant scenery, and good infrastructure. Walking on the road, watching it is also a kind of enjoyment.
A good community and a good cultural environment are crucial to me. I'm more likely to find like-minded people when the community sample is rich, diverse, and inclusive enough. Even if I am at a distance from the community, when I need energy and social interaction, I can quickly find people in the community to chat; and when I want to be alone, I can always return to my own little world without worrying Being ignored by others. Judgmental or uncomfortable.
During this year of sojourn, I gradually realized that I did not enjoy the wandering state of having no fixed place, and actually needed a stable corner deep down in my heart. There, I can establish my own living habits, be accompanied by my favorite items, and have relatively stable friendships or intimate relationships.
For example, the month I spent at a driving school in Utrecht, Netherlands, was the highlight of my year. During that time, I had a relatively stable place to live and a circle of friends. My daily life is very orderly. Classes, cooking, sports, socializing, going out to play, everything is in order. After getting used to the unplanned life of freelancing, this kind of regular life makes me feel extremely comfortable.
However, I also found that although traveling is full of novelty, it is difficult to establish a sense of order in life every time I stay in one place. I met some people that I wanted to get to know more deeply and developed some interests and hobbies. However, because of the state of travel, it felt cruel to have to leave and crush it all again.
At the end of this year, I have a clearer answer to what I want to do next. Next year, I may no longer be content with just traveling, but hope to live and stay in one place for a longer period of time, maybe more than a year. As for where this place is, I will reveal it next year.
