In today's digital age, data visualization is becoming increasingly important. Whenever they see those beautiful and stylish large data screens, many people will definitely have this question: "How is this achieved? Is it possible every time?" Do we have to rely on front-end and back-end programmers to spend a lot of time on development? ? "Obviously, this approach is inefficient and not a long-term solution. Until I discovered the DataEase project on GitHub, especially its desktop version, which has brought good news to the majority of data enthusiasts. There is no need to understand code or purchase. The server does not even require registration and login, and is truly available to everyone. It can be called the leader among open source BI tools.
1. Download and install
DataEase desktop version supports Mac, Windows and Linux systems. Just go to the official website, click download, and select the corresponding installation package according to your system platform. Taking the Mac system as an example, the installation is very quick after downloading and decompressing. If a prompt appears during installation that the app is from an unsafe source, you can ignore it and enable Trust external apps in your privacy settings. Windows systems are even simpler, just click to install.
2. Build a large data screen for practical operations
- Prepare data sources : DataEase supports multiple data sources, such as databases, data analysis platforms, data lake API interfaces, etc. In order to facilitate the demonstration, the blogger prepared an Excel file of e-commerce sales statistics in advance and shared it in the comment area for everyone to obtain. Click Excel on the operation interface to upload files. You can also name the data source for later configuration. At the same time, you can preview the first few rows of data. If Excel contains multiple worksheets, they will be displayed separately. After confirming that it is correct, click "Save" to complete the data source creation. . This way you can import multiple Excel files.
- Create a data set : The data source is the original data, and the data set is derived based on the original data. You can create folders to manage datasets on the same data screen, or create individual datasets by clicking Data Preparation and selecting Datasets. There are two ways to create it. One is to directly apply the original data to obtain the full amount of data; the other is to perform refined data screening and processing by writing SQL statements. When creating, you can select fields and group fields into metrics and dimensions. Shuyi will automatically assign them and support conversion between indicators and dimensions.
- Create dashboards : Dashboards consist of various data views such as charts, query components, rich text, media, tabs, web pages, etc. Once you select a chart, there are several chart types to choose from. The chart at this time is just an example. In order to display real data, you need to add a data set and configure the displayed metrics and dimensions. For example, if you want to check the number of transactions in online and offline channels every month, just configure it according to the corresponding rules. If the data is dynamic, you can also set the refresh frequency.
- Intelligent use of templates : If you have no clue about large-screen design, the Shuyi community has many exquisite templates shared by experts, including dashboard templates and data large-screen templates. Common industries are listed on the left, which can be searched by industry or by keyword. For example, if you search for "annual sales," you can find a template you like and click Apply directly. However, the data in the templates are mostly examples. You need to assign a data set to each view, drag and drop to configure the corresponding indicators and dimensions, and you will have a beautiful and clear data picture.
3. Large screen export and sharing
After completing the data large screen design, it can be exported to image or PDF format. If you use server deployment, you can also generate a shareable link and embed it into the desired website. In addition, users can share their carefully designed works to the community and export them as style templates or application templates, which is convenient and practical.
DataEase desktop version performs well in data visualization, truly making data visualization within reach. Interested friends may wish to click on the link below to experience it for themselves. The blogger will also share the Excel file used in the video so that everyone can practice on their own.
