Experience the digital nomad community: a different life in a container

Have you ever wanted to leave the hustle and bustle of the city and live and work in a peaceful and creative environment? Recently, I was fortunate enough to experience a digital nomad community located in Xilong Township, Anji County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The life there made me feel unprecedented peace and freedom.

Container, a word originally associated only with maritime logistics, has been given a whole new meaning here. The room I am in is about the size of a standard 20-foot container. Although it is not large in area, it is fully functional. And its price is a bit staggering: a month's rent is as high as 2,980 yuan, and even a week or a day costs 980 yuan and 350 yuan respectively. This price is undoubtedly high for a rural location.

So why did I choose to live here? The answer is the concept of “digital nomad communities”. As a worker in the fields of video creation, UI design, and independent development, I am full of curiosity and expectation for such a community of like-minded digital workers. Here, we can work and live together and share each other's experiences and insights.

The two digital nomad communities in Anji County—Dian Fishing Village Digital Nomad Commune and DNA Digital Nomad Commune—have similar names, but each has its own characteristics. They provide a wealth of public facilities, such as public office areas, kitchens, gyms, libraries, etc., making our lives more convenient and colorful. However, I also found that although these facilities are readily available, not many people can actually calm down and work. On the contrary, when someone suggests having a dinner, watching a movie, or sharing experiences, everyone actively participates.

Living in a digital nomad community is like living in a miniature campus. We share this space and spend every day together. However, as a stranger, it is not easy to truly integrate into this group. Especially during my short stay, I found that I didn’t develop deep friendships with too many people. Despite this, I am still full of expectations and longing for this lifestyle.

Spending time in a shipping container gave me a deeper understanding of the digital nomad community. This is not only a place to provide accommodation and work, but also a platform for us to make new friends and expand our horizons. Although I haven't made many friends here, this experience has made me more convinced that as long as we are willing to devote time and energy, we will be able to find people who share the same goals as us and create a wonderful life for us together.
