Personal site access to Google Ads and related precautions

Integrating Google Ads (formerly known as Google AdSense) to a personal site (such as a blog) is a relatively straightforward monetization process, but you need to follow Google's policies and best practices. The following are the steps and considerations for connecting to Google Ads:

Access process:

  1. Create a Google Ads account : Visit the Google Ads website and register for a new account. If you already have a Google account (such as Gmail), you can use it to log in and register. URL: https://adsense.google.com/start/

  2. Apply for Google Ads : During the registration process, you need to provide your website information and other relevant information such as contact and payment information.

  3. After logging in, click "Sites" in the left navigation bar, then click "New Site" to add a site;
  4. The system will verify whether you own the site in three ways: "AdSense code snippet", "Ads.txt snippet" and "Meta tag". Taking "AdSense code snippet" as an example, you can paste the AdSense code provided by the platform into the head of your front-end code;
  5. Click "Verify" to verify;
  6. After the verification is passed, you can click "Request review" in the next step to request the staff to review your request.

  7. Website review : After you submit your application, Google will review your site. A review will typically check whether your website content meets Google's quality guidelines, including the originality of the content, user experience, and the site's navigational structure.

  8. Get the ad code : Once your application is approved, you can get the ad code from your Google Ads account.

  9. Insert ad code into your blog : Paste the ad code into your blog template where you want your ads to appear. This usually involves HTML/CSS editing.

  10. Start showing ads : Once the code is inserted, ads will start showing on your blog. Google will automatically place relevant ads on your site.

Things to note:

  1. Content quality : Make sure your blog has high-quality, original content. Google doesn't allow low-quality or plagiarized content.

  2. Comply with policies : Follow Google Ads policies, including prohibited content and conduct. Violating the policy may result in the suspension of your account.

  3. User experience : Don’t let ads interfere with your user experience. Avoid placing too many ads or placing ads in inappropriate locations.

  4. Traffic Sources : Google requires all traffic to be legitimate. Don't try to increase your CTR through unfair means, such as clicking on your own ads or using automated tools.

  5. Ad Layout : Ads should be clearly identified as ads and should not mislead users. Make sure ads are not confused with website content.

  6. Monitor performance : Use the tools provided by Google Ads to monitor your ad performance, including click-through rate and revenue.

  7. Tax information : Depending on the laws of your country, you may be required to provide tax information and pay taxes on the earnings you receive from Google Ads.

  8. Update regularly : Update your blog content regularly to keep it active and relevant, which will help attract more visitors, potentially increasing advertising revenue.

  9. Security and Privacy : Ensure your website is secure, protects user privacy, and complies with data protection regulations such as GDPR or CCPA.

By following these steps and considerations, you can successfully integrate Google Ads into your personal blog and start generating income from it. Remember, patience and consistent content quality are the keys to growing ad revenue.
